Honik LLC has filed multiple class action lawsuits against car makers and data brokers for recording and selling drivers’ data without knowledge or consent. As reported in the New York Times in March 2024, see https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/11/technology/carmakers-driver-tracking-insurance.html, car makers such as General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and potentially others have equipped cars with software, or made them capable of supporting applications, that track how drivers drive. This includes things like how many times a driver “hard brakes” or drives at night. The car makers then sell drivers’ data to data brokers, who sell it to auto insurers.
